DOLLARD DOES IT AGAIN: St. Ignatius Stuns Burlingame with Walk-Off Homer

Wildcats ace goes yard with two outs in the seventh to complete stunning comeback

Lightning struck twice at Fairmont Field.

Just days after delivering a walk-off double to sink Aragon, Olivia Dollard stepped to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday with her team trailing 4-2 — and sent one over the fence.

The three-run blast to center field capped a stunning comeback as the Varsity Wildcats walked off with a 5-4 victory over the Burlingame Varsity Panthers, making it back-to-back dramatic finishes on their home field.

Dollard finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with four RBI, once again doing double duty as both the Wildcats' most reliable pitcher and most dangerous hitter. On the mound, she went the full seven innings, surrendering eight hits and four runs — two earned — while striking out seven and walking four. It was the kind of ironwoman performance that championship runs are built on.

The Wildcats drew first blood in the bottom of the first when Dollard ripped a triple to put St. Ignatius on the board early. But Burlingame answered quickly and decisively in the top of the second.

The Panthers tacked on another run to push the lead to 4-2.

But this was Dollard's day.

When she stepped in during that decisive seventh-inning at-bat, the Wildcats needed more than a base hit. She gave them everything — a towering shot to center that cleared the fence and silenced the Panthers in one swing.

The supporting cast did their part as well. Julie Galarza and Gianna Galarza each chipped in two hits alongside Dollard's multi-hit effort, giving the Wildcats three players with multiple knocks on the day. Kaitlin Jacobson drew two of the team's five walks, a sign of a lineup that stayed disciplined and made the Panthers pitcher work deep into counts all afternoon.

St. Ignatius has now won two straight in walk-off fashion, and with Dollard on the mound and in the lineup, no lead appears safe once the seventh inning arrives.

The Wildcats hit the road next, heading to Woodside on Wednesday for their next test.
