Gianna Galarza was nothing short of spectacular Thursday afternoon, driving in six runs on four hits to lead the Wildcats to a dominant 10-0 shutout victory over South San Francisco at Fairmont Field in Pacifica.
Galarza wasted no time making her presence felt, stepping up in the bottom of the first inning and ripping a two-run double that got St. Ignatius on the board early. She wasn't done there — the multi-tool player added three RBI singles over the course of the next two innings, and later doubled her offensive output with a two-RBI single in the fifth to cap off a remarkable individual performance at the plate.
The Wildcats kept their foot on the gas throughout the contest. After Galarza's opening salvo, St. Ignatius extended their lead in the second inning when Galarza singled to center field, Olivia Dollard drew a walk, and Vicky Carrillo-Marchetti grounded into a fielder's choice — each play producing a run. The third inning brought more of the same, with RBI singles from Delilah Berry and Galarza pushing the lead to double digits and effectively putting the game out of reach.
In the circle, Dollard was equally impressive, earning the win with a pristine three-inning outing. She surrendered zero hits and zero runs while striking out six batters without issuing a single walk — a near-unhittable performance. Giana Galarza then stepped in for relief duty, tossing two scoreless innings of her own, giving up just one hit, striking out one, and walking three.
Offensively, St. Ignatius collected 12 hits as a team. Berry had a standout game of her own, going 3-for-3 at the plate to complement Galarza's big day. The Wildcats also played a clean game defensively, committing zero errors. Kaitlin Jacobson anchored the defense with eight chances in the field.Â
With the convincing win in hand, St. Ignatius will look to carry the momentum into their next contest when they travel to take on Notre Dame Belmont on Monday.
