Field Hockey Ranked No. 1 in California, Improves to 7-0
Field Hockey

Field Hockey put together another undefeated week, improving to 7-0 on the season with a pair of dominant wins.

On Monday, the Wildcats defeated Fremont 7-0, with four different Wildcats finding the back of the cage. University of Iowa commit Olivia Van de Braak led the way with a hat trick.

The Wildcats extended their winning streak on Wednesday with a 15-0 victory over Cupertino. Senior Storey Lewis scored five goals, while Van de Braak added three more.

The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 1 in California and will face a major test on Saturday when they take on Scripps Ranch, the No. 6-ranked team in the state.

Wildcats' Defense Steals the Show in Bruce-Mahoney Win at Kezar
Football

St. Ignatius football has shot out of a cannon to start the 2026 season, and through three games, most of the attention has been on an offense averaging a staggering 42 points per contest. But in the biggest test of the young season, it was the Wildcats' defense that stepped up when it mattered most.

In the opening game of WCAL play, and the historic Bruce-Mahoney Game, the Wildcats traveled to Kezar Stadium and left with a 24-7 win, improving their record to a perfect 4-0. Sacred Heart Cathedral's Fighting Irish struck first, finding the end zone in the opening quarter, but the Wildcat defense answered by flexing its muscle for the remainder of the game, shutting the Irish out the rest of the way.

A pair of  turnovers proved to be the turning point, swinging momentum firmly in the Wildcats' favor and putting the game on ice through the fourth quarter. Max D'Aquisto '28 and Casey Nelson '29 were the stars of the unit, but it was a complete team effort on defense that ultimately decided the outcome in front of a packed house at one of the city's most storied venues.

With the win, St. Ignatius continues to build momentum as one of the most complete teams in the WCAL, with an offense that can put up points in a hurry and a defense that has shown it can win a rivalry game on the road. The Wildcats will look to keep the perfect season alive next Saturday, October 3, at 1:30 PM, when they travel to face the Archbishop Riordan Crusaders in a key WCAL matchup.

Flag Football Off to a Strong Start
Flag Football

St. Ignatius Flag Football is off to a strong start in its second season under head coach Garrett Simpson.

After finishing 2–11 last year, the Wildcats have flipped the script this fall, opening the season 9–3. SI put together an eight-game winning streak before falling to St. Francis on Monday, a significant turnaround for a program that entered the season looking to take a major step forward.

According to Simpson, much of that progress began over the summer. The Wildcats committed to an eight-week summer program, meeting four days a week. Simpson said that preparation has been one of the biggest differences between last year's team and the group taking the field this season.

That work has translated into a productive offense led by junior quarterback Emma Burry, who threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 42 touchdowns through the Wildcats' first 10 games. SI has also received strong contributions from a deep group of receivers, including freshman Vanessa Ferrante, senior Zoe McCulloch and junior Iymani Samifua.

With a 9–3 start behind them, the Wildcats have their sights set on bigger goals. Simpson said the team's goals this season are to win the WCAL championship, earn a spot in the postseason and ultimately compete for a CCS championship.

Up next, the Wildcats will travel to Archbishop Riordan on Saturday for a highly anticipated league matchup as part of a special doubleheader with the Gil Haskell football game. Flag Football will kick off the day at 11 a.m., followed by Football at 1:30 p.m.

Girls Volleyball Prepares for Bruce-Mahoney Showdown
Volleyball

St. Ignatius Girls Volleyball heads into October with a 17-8 overall record after a strong opening month of the season. The Wildcats' strong start has earned them recognition across the Bay Area, with Cal-Hi Sports currently ranking SI No. 2 in its Bay Area Top 10, behind only Archbishop Mitty.

The Wildcats found their rhythm early in September, putting together a five-game winning streak that included a strong showing at the Girls Bay Area Classic. The team then traveled to Las Vegas for the Durango Fall Classic, facing a challenging field that included teams from California, Arizona and Kentucky. SI returned home and picked up its first WCAL victory with a 3-0 sweep of Archbishop Riordan.

The Wildcats followed that performance with an impressive run at the Bearcat Classic on Sept. 26, going 6-0 on the day to capture the tournament championship. SI swept all six opponents, including a 25-19, 27-25 victory over Burlingame in the championship match.

Now, the Wildcats are turning their attention to one of the most anticipated matches of the season. SI will take on Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Bruce-Mahoney volleyball game on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at USF's War Memorial Gymnasium. The rivalry matchup traditionally draws a packed crowd and is expected to be one of the biggest nights of the season for the Wildcats. The game begins at 7:00 PM, you can watch the live stream at Bay Area Online Sports Network.

And that's a wrap for the Wildcat Sports Report. Go 'Cats!
