WILDCATS CLAW PAST PANTHERS IN DOMINANT 7-2 VICTORY, ADVANCE TO BORAS CLASSIC SEMIFINALS

SACRAMENTO, CA — April 14, 2025 — The St. Ignatius College Preparatory Wildcats unleashed an offensive barrage Monday afternoon, storming back from an early deficit to overwhelm the Benicia Panthers 7-2 in Game 2 of the prestigious Boras Classic. The victory propels the Wildcats into Wednesday night's semifinal showdown, scheduled for 7pm.

After falling behind in the second inning when Benicia capitalized on a defensive miscue to plate two unearned runs, the Wildcats responded with a thunderous third-inning rally that left the Panthers reeling.

Junior standout Archer Horn ignited the comeback with a scorching double down the line to drive in the first Wildcat run. DJ Delaney followed with a productive ground ball that resulted in a double play but knotted the score at 2-2. The floodgates opened when junior sensation Atticus Gibson delivered the decisive blow, ripping a two-run double to give St. Ignatius a lead they would never relinquish.

On the mound, Tycco Giometti turned in an impressive 4.2 innings of work, scattering five hits while yielding two unearned runs. The left-hander showcased pinpoint control, fanning two Panthers while issuing just one free pass. Eddie McCartney slammed the door with 2.1 innings of lockdown relief, allowing a single hit while punching out two to secure the victory and the semifinal berth.

The Wildcats' aggressive approach on the basepaths paid dividends as they swiped six bases, keeping constant pressure on the Panthers' defense. Gibson proved to be the offensive catalyst, going 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs from the seventh spot in the lineup. The Wildcats' balanced attack saw four players—Emmett Johnson, Horn, Beau Schaffer, and Gibson—collect multiple hits in the contest.

With this convincing tournament victory, St. Ignatius continues to build momentum as they prepare for Wednesday night's high-stakes semifinal matchup at 7pm, where they'll look to take another step toward Boras Classic glory.
