Archer Horn put on a show Tuesday afternoon, going 4-for-5 with a rare inside-the-park home run to lead the St. Ignatius Wildcats to a 10-6 victory over the Saint Francis Lancers at Saint Francis High School.
Horn set the tone early, lacing an inside-the-park homer in the first inning to give the Wildcats an immediate advantage. He never let up, adding a double in the third, then picking up singles in both the sixth and seventh innings to cap off one of the more complete offensive performances of the young season.
St. Ignatius wasted no time building on the momentum. The Wildcats tacked on another run in the third inning when Jack Callen singled up the middle, part of a relentless offensive attack that produced 15 hits on the day. Chase Gordon was equally dangerous, going 2-for-3 and pacing the team with three RBI. RJ Kott, Jack Callen, and Cole Callen each chipped in with multi-hit efforts to keep the Lancer pitching staff on its heels all afternoon.
On the mound, Leo Rhein was sharp in earning the victory. The starter worked four clean innings, surrendering just three hits and one earned run while fanning four and walking three — more than enough to keep his team in front. Connor Law came on in relief to help close things out.
With the win, St. Ignatius improves their standing to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in WCAL, heading into a rematch with the Lancers this Friday, when Saint Francis travels to Dekker Diamond for what figures to be an eagerly anticipated rubber match.
