On Saturday, May 18th, the Men's Track & Field team secured an exciting team victory at the CCS Championships. The Wildcats won the meet with 55 points, defeating Bellarmine and Serra, who tied for second place, by 8 points.
The team was led by Thomas Zang, who scored an impressive 24 points with his 2nd place finish in the 110m hurdles, 1st place finish in the 300m hurdles, and 3rd place finish in the 4x400m relay with teammates Christopher Weltzien, Carter Cumiskey, and Ryder Filinski.
Other top performers included Noah Gonzalez, who scored 14 points with a 1st place finish in the men's triple jump, setting a school record with a jump of 46' 11", and a 5th place finish in the men's long jump. Lex Lehnert contributed 10 points with a 1st place finish in the pole vault, breaking his school record with a jump of 16' 00". Additional points came from Mo Barnum, who placed 6th in the triple jump, and the men's 4x800m relay team of Lucci Roberts, Misha Goldberg, John Hollister, and Trey Wright, who finished 5th.
This victory marks the first CCS Championship win for the Men's Track & Field Team since 1991. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance.
Advancing to the CIF State Track & Field Championships are Zang, Gonzalez, and Lehnert in the 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, triple jump, and pole vault, respectively, along with the 4x400m relay team. Alongside the men, from the Women's Track & Field Team, Suraya Newman advanced to state in the long jump and triple jump, and Ellie McCuskey-Hay advanced to state in the 100m dash, the 200m dash, the long jump, and the 4x100m relay with teammates Avery Hui-Bytof, Penelope Berger, and Sophia Boudraa.
