Bio:
Coach Mario Gini had been coaching at SI since 2008. He started as an assistant coach for the men’s team and became an assistant coach for the women’s team in 2013. In 2019 he became the head coach of the men’s team and continues to be an assistant with the women’s team. Mario swam for Kennedy High School in Sacramento and was a 4 year Varisty swimmer. He was named to the All-Metro Team in his junior and senior years. During those 2 years he was undefeated in the 200 and 500 freestyle never losing a race at a dual meet. His senior year he won the 200 and 500 freestyle at his league championships. He was also a finalist at the San Joaquin Section meet in the 200 and 500 free as a senior. Mario went on to swim at SF State, where he still holds the Inter-Squad meet record in the 500 freestyle. Mario is also on the top 10 all time list at SF State in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events. Mario was an assistant coach when the 2014 SI Men’s team placed 3rd in the CCS Open Division. He was also a part of the coaching staff that saw the SI girls 3-peat (2022-2024) as CCS Open Division Champions. Mario currently is still swimming Masters at Burlingame Aquatic Club and coaches there part time as well.
