Dynasty Continues: St. Ignatius Wildcats Women's Swimming & Diving Team Secures 3-Peat CCS Championship and Eyes CIF State Meet

On Saturday, May 4th, the St. Ignatius Wildcats Women's Swimming & Diving team continued their dynasty by securing a 3-peat CCS Championship at Independence High School in San Jose. Their victory was fueled by winning performances in the 100 yard backstroke, the 200 yard medley relay, and the 400 yard free relay.

Senior Coco Quill claimed the CCS Championship in the 100 yard backstroke with a school record-breaking time of 55.35. The 200 yard medley relay team of Coco Quill, Ava Sto. Domingo, Jordan Ash, and Marlee Repp clinched first place with a time of 1:44.00, earning them All-American honors. The 400 yard free relay team of Elaine Birkhold, Ellie Burkhardt, Maddie Kwok, and Coco Quill finished first in 3:28.75. These performances secured their spots at the CIF State Swimming & Diving Meet.

The Wildcats also excelled in other events, securing state qualifying marks. In the 200 yard freestyle, Junior Ellie Burkhardt set a new school record at 1:50.68, placing 3rd, while Elaine Birkhold finished 5th at 1:51.78. Senior Jordan Ash achieved 5th place in the 100 yard butterfly with 55.50 seconds, and Coco Quill placed 3rd in the 100 yard freestyle with 51.63 seconds, both earning State Meet qualifications. Additionally, the 200 yard free relay team of Jordan Ash, Elaine Birkhold, Ellie Burkhardt, and Marlee Repp qualified for the State Meet with a time of 1:36.21.

Other notable performances included Freshman Maddie Kwok placing 9th in the 200 yard freestyle, Jordan Ash and Marlee Repp securing 5th and 6th places in the 50 yard freestyle, Marlee Repp placing 7th in the 100 yard freestyle, and Elaine Birkhold finishing 8th in the 500 yard free.

The Wildcats' team achievement puts them among a select group of only four women's teams to have ever achieved a 3-peat in CCS history. The most recent team to accomplish this was Archbishop Mitty from 2009 to 2011. Having etched their names in CCS history, the Wildcats now aim to carry their momentum into the CIF State Swimming & Diving Meet, scheduled from Thursday, May 9th, to Saturday, May 11th, at Clovis West High School in Fresno.
